چکیده

Solar power (SP) passive optical network (PON)-based fiber-wireless (FiWi) access systems are becoming increasingly popular as they provide coverage to rural and urban areas where no grid exists. Secure operation of such networks which includes solar- and/or battery-powered devices, is crucial for anticipating potential issues prolong the life operation. Since units (ONUs) may be powered by SP-charged batteries, energy awareness becomes an important issue, particularly when it comes reducing ONUs’ consumption allowing them operate in off-grid remote areas. With PON fixed part these networks, line terminal (OLT) informs ONUs through a message exchange mechanism traffic present, transition low-power-consumption sleep mode. However, man-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks pose serious threat mechanisms, can eventually drain resulting their shutdown. Consequently, this paper introduces two novel mechanisms ONU consumption, namely wake-up time-out used mitigate effectiveness MITM that seek affect unit’s due battery drain. The formal verification results show goals were effectively achieved.

FiWi Access Networks Based on Next-Generation PON and Gigabit-Class WLAN Technologies: A Capacity and Delay Analysis (Extended Version)

Current Gigabit-class passive optical networks (PONs) evolve into next-generation PONs, whereby high-speed 10+ Gb/s time division multiplexing (TDM) and long-reach wavelength-broadcasting/routing wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) PONs are promising near-term candidates. On the other hand, next-generation wireless local area networks (WLANs) based on frame aggregation techniques will levera...

Frame aggregation in fibre-wireless (FiWi) broadband access networks

MAC enhancements of emerging high-throughput WLANs are considered and a novel FiWi network architecture is introduced that integrates next-generation WLAN-based WMN and EPON in a pay-asyou-grow manner while providing backward compatibility with a legacy infrastructure and protecting previous investments. To investigate the performance of FiWi networks, the capacity of WMNs is evaluated through ...

Securing SDN Infrastructure of IoT-Fog Networks From MitM Attacks

While the IoT is making our lives much easier, managing the IoT becomes a big issue due to the huge number of connections, and the lack of protections for devices. Recent work shows that Software-defined Networking (SDN) has a great capability in automatically and dynamically managing network flows. Besides, switches in SDNs are usually powerful machines, which can be used as fog nodes simultan...

Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation in Fiber-Wireless (FiWi) Access Networks

Fiber wireless access (FiWi) network is a category of hybrid network, which cumulates the advantages of optical network and wireless network at frontend and backend respectively. FiWi is one of those networks which are capable of providing high bandwidth as well as great flexibility. In today’s world of high speed applications demand of spectrum is increasing rapidly, hence it becomes criticall...

Sieve-in-the-Middle: Improved MITM Attacks

This paper presents a new generic technique, named sievein-the-middle, which improves meet-in-the-middle attacks in the sense that it provides an attack on a higher number of rounds. Instead of selecting the key candidates by searching for a collision in an intermediate state which can be computed forwards and backwards, we look for the existence of valid transitions through some middle sbox. C...
